Rare Vinyl Records: Values and Real Sale Prices

Every price on these pages comes from a sale that actually happened, with the year attached and, where it is on record, the auction house. That matters, because most writing about rare vinyl repeats figures with no source and no date. The pages fall into three groups: overview pages that rank records by what they really made, practical pages on grading, price guides and first pressings, and pages on specific records people search for by name. If you are checking a record of your own, start with identification rather than valuation. Almost every famous album is common, and the copies that are not are separated from the rest by a catalogue number, a label design and a string of characters in the runout groove — not by age.
